Flipping through the winter issue of Curl a familiar name jumps out of a headline at me, Mandy Zieran. But it’s not for bodyboarding, she is featured as a surf photographer in the gallery section. Word along the grapevine is Milkshakes have nutted out an advertising deal with Curl which includes the inclusion of a girls bodyboard page in their mag. Curl are one of the only women’s surf magazines left standing post-surf-chick-boom and publish 4 issues a year.

Both Curl and Riptide are looking for quality shots of aussie girls right now!!!! For the photographers Riptide pays for shots but Curl’s budget is tight so they are asking for free photos at the moment. If this becomes a regular edition of the mag they will probably start paying eventually.

Editors note/question: While I appreciate getting coverage in Curl is a step forward it does bring into light deals/relationships between advertisers and magazines/media, should women’s bodyboarding coverage be contingent on advertising dollars? Comments are on, have your say.
