EBB WA Bodyboard Series 2010

The Western Australian State Bodyboarding Series is more than just a showcase of the best amateur riders in the state, they provide a great opportunity to represent WA at a national level; a chance for the legends and up and comers of the Western Australian bodyboarding community to reunite and educate a new breed of grommets about the strong link between the sport, the culture of our nation and our relationship with the land.

West Australia has produced many high profile bodyboarders including the likes of Ryan Hardy, Sean Virtue, Brad Hughes, Joe Jordanoff, and not to mention the iconic Tension crew to name a few. The future of bodyboarding within the state is looking great, with the constant emergence of new talent and support of companies who are committed to the development of the sport at every level.

Today bodyboarding is a key facet of the national surfing scene and remains integral to both the history and traditions of the surfing culture both here in Australia and world wide. With the national titles and state competitions catering for divisions from junior through to masters, it is a unique discipline and one that has large appeal to a major cross-section of our society.

Kaitlin Murphy of the Central Coast, NSW was far too good in the open womens division taking out Serena Ball in second with 9.14, Nicole Fleming in third with 7.50    and Kirby Smith in forth with 2.87.

“I am feeling really good, pretty stoked really” said Catlin. ( I’m sure Wombat would be equally stoked with her name magically changing spelling through out the IBA Australasia press release)

“I have been surfing and training heaps in preparation for the contest”.

“I was really happy with the waves that I got, I paddled out there and I got two bad waves straight up, then I managed to get two waves that I was really happy with”.

OPEN WOMENS FINAL

1)    Kaitlin Murphy    (14.84)            Central Coast, NSW
2)    Serena Ball        (9.14)            New Zealand
3)    Nicole Fleming    (7.50)            Tasmania/NSW
4    Kirby Smith        (2.87)            Western Australia

The junior women’s  final proved to be the most exciting junior final in a couple of years with all the girls pulling big rolls and spin combinations. They certainly will be upsetting a few girls when they step up into the big league.

JUNIOR WOMENS FINAL

Old Bar Beach Festival Bodyboarding Contest – Media Release

Bodyboarders from Manning Great Lakes Bodyboarding Assoc. (MGBA) invite all bodyboarders to The Old Bar Beach Festival Bodyboaridng Contest on Sunday 4th October. The event has been organised by the Beach Festival Committee and the recently formed MGBA, which was previously known as The Forster/Tuncurry Bodyboarding Assoc. and the Old Bar Beach Bodyboard Club.

Terry McKenna, the General Manager of International Bodyboarding Assoc. (IBA) will be commentating the contest. Terry has been commentating for over 15 years and is the main commentator for the prestigious SURFEST in Newcastle . Judges include Maurice Wakeling of Bodyboarding NSW and Garth McGregor a pioneer in bodyboarding from Newcastle.

Already the contest organisers have received interest from entrants from Sydney, Port Macquarie and Newcastle. The event can take up to 64 competitors and divisions include junior, cadet, opens, women’s and drop knee.

Professional Bodyboarders, Ben Player (2005 and 2007 World Champion) and Chad Jackson from Grand Flavour will be at the event to meet the bodyboarders. Grand Flavour and Low Pressure Surf Co will host a surf fashion parade at 11:00am as part of the beach festival and bodyboarding contest. A free bodyboarding coaching clinic will be on offer for anyone who is interested in learning how to bodyboard. A Flipper competition will be on at 10am and prizes will be given.

Science bodyboards will be available for testing which means that anyone looking at buying a new bodyboard can test the board to ensure it rides well before they buy it. Contest organiser Melynne Rosamond says ‘This is a great idea because buying a bodyboard is a large investment for any young person and parents and there is nothing worse than buying a board you don’t like and then being stuck with it’.

The contest cost $45 to enter and includes a contest shirt. Entry forms are available at www.bodyboardingnsw.com.au. Entries must be received by 18th September. For more information contact Melynne Rosamond obbfbodyboardingcontest@live.com.au
