The 2010 EBB WA State Bodyboard Series Presented by SunSmart
Proudly Supported by Reeflex Wetsuits, Grand Flavour Clothing, Creatures of Leisure, Elit Bodyboards, and IFins.

Round # 1 – Mandurah Wedge, WA
Saturday 1st  – Sunday 2nd May 2010.

Mandurah Wedge to host the first EBB State Bodyboard Series Event For 2010.

(Friday, 23rd April 2010): The WA bodyboarding community is currently buzzing with anticipation for the opening event of the 2010 EBB WA State Bodyboard Series, which set to begin next weekend at the now world famous Mandurah Wedge. It has been a long time between drinks since the IBA Australasia National Titles in Queensland last year, and WA’s best bodyboarders have been fine tuning their skills in hopes to qualify for the 2010 WA State Bodyboard Team which will travel back to D-Bah, Queensland in November.

The EBB WA State Bodyboard Series offers WA competitors a chance to compete in some of the best waves the state has to offer, whilst also mixing it up with some of the true professionals of the sport. Mandurah Wedge is a high performance break that has been a mecca for many bodyboarders lately and will surely attract a stellar field of new and exciting entrants, keen to step up to the challenge that the ‘Medge’ so often offers.

Although it has been a pretty wave starved couple of months in the Perth area, the outlook for next week is looking positive, and with this years series travelling to Mandurah, Scarborough and culminating with the EBB Pro in the South-West. Surfing WA Events Manager Justin Majeks is excited about the prospects of the series for 2010.

“WA has been leading the charge in the sport lately and I think it’s important to reward the competitors with the best waves we can. We’d never run an event at the Wedge before 2009 and it was so good that we had to come back.” Said Majeks.

This year’s series will be the best to date with some new sponsors getting behind the event and pushing the future of bodyboarding in WA in the right direction.

“The response from the sponsors has been simply outstanding, we have more people onboard this year than ever before, which Im sure will make for some stoked kids come finals time.” He continued.

Mandurah Wedge and the surrounding breaks provide some of the most consistent and contestable waves in the whole metro area and with the sand moving in to position nicely at the Wedge, event officials are looking forward to an awesome opening round of competition.

Entries for this event closes on Wednesday 28th May and are filling up quickly
, so be sure to get in quick to avoid disappointment.

EBB WA Bodyboard Series 2010

The Western Australian State Bodyboarding Series is more than just a showcase of the best amateur riders in the state, they provide a great opportunity to represent WA at a national level; a chance for the legends and up and comers of the Western Australian bodyboarding community to reunite and educate a new breed of grommets about the strong link between the sport, the culture of our nation and our relationship with the land.

West Australia has produced many high profile bodyboarders including the likes of Ryan Hardy, Sean Virtue, Brad Hughes, Joe Jordanoff, and not to mention the iconic Tension crew to name a few. The future of bodyboarding within the state is looking great, with the constant emergence of new talent and support of companies who are committed to the development of the sport at every level.

Today bodyboarding is a key facet of the national surfing scene and remains integral to both the history and traditions of the surfing culture both here in Australia and world wide. With the national titles and state competitions catering for divisions from junior through to masters, it is a unique discipline and one that has large appeal to a major cross-section of our society.

You might not have heard from me lately because I’ve been busy. trying to pay off a hefty credit card world trip .. phew** up to mischief now though!

West Coast is the place to be because.. when it’s offshore and pumping it’s cool to explore places but we know how to entertain ourselves when the surf is onshore.

But I would consider a move East if.. there was an INCREDIBLY amazing man there for me. ha!

On the drive to the beach I like would be listening to..
the sounds that my friends pick as they would be the ones driving..oh some day soon i’ll have the luxury!

So I can amp to surf my favourite spot.. that is offshore and pumping, probably rotto.. it’s offshore there the most :P

Being from WA I have strong feelings on daylight savings they are..
that people need to think about the whole state, up north doesn’t need longer days!! clearly i voted no. hate me if you want but i like going to the beach early.

If I had to name my bodyboard it would be called.. WATiki because its a cross between WA and Nzed. a cool word. and sounds kinda exotic. yessss. ha!
