4 Reasons Not To Store Your Boat At Home

Business Blog

If you have a boat, you might be thinking about storing it on your property. However, for many people, looking for a boat storage option can be a better choice. These are a few reasons why you may not want to store your boat at your house.

1. You Could Get in Trouble with Your HOA

Do you live in a restricted community with a homeowners association? If so, you may want to check the rules before bringing your boat home and leaving it there. Some homeowners associations have rules against such things, so you could find yourself fined or otherwise in trouble with your HOA.

2. It Could Affect Your Home's Curb Appeal

You might love your boat and the way that it looks, but the people who pass by your home might think that it looks big and bulky and isn't a good accompaniment to your lawn. Plus, storing your boat on the grass could cause damage to your lawn.

3. It Could Be at Risk of Theft or the Elements

Have you thought about whether your boat would be truly safe from theft, vandalism or the elements if stored at home? You won't be able to keep an eye on it all the time, so it could be stolen or vandalized, or someone could steal a part off of it if you aren't careful. Also, even though being out in the elements might not hurt the boat too much at first, it could accelerate wear and tear. It could be safer and kept in better condition if stored somewhere that is designed specifically for boat storage.

4. It Might Be Tougher to Use It

Unless you have water in close proximity to your house, you could make it tougher for you to use your boat by storing it at home, since you may have to hook it up to your truck and haul it to the ocean or lake every time that you want to put it in the water. If you keep it stored near your preferred body of water, on the other hand, you can make it that much easier for you to get out in the water whenever you're ready.

As you can see, keeping your boat at home might not be the best choice. Instead, consider contacting marinas or other boat storage facilities like Home Port Self Storage that can keep your boat safe and in good condition when you aren't using it.
