Pros And Cons Of Vertical Window Blinds

Business Blog

There are many different types of window blinds. One style that is common is vertical blinds. These blinds hang from one strip that runs along the top of the window. They can be any width, but most are on the wider side. Should you choose vertical window blinds for your windows? Here are some pros and cons to weigh as you make this decision.

Pro: Vertical blinds are easy to look through.

If you want a window to be covered, but you want to be able to look through the window easily, vertical blinds are a good choice. You can always push the blinds to each side and peer through them. This does not require you to pull any strings, adjust any pulleys, or so forth.

Con: Vertical blinds don't fit narrow windows well.

If you have any tall, skinny windows, putting vertical blinds over them won't work as well. The blinds can look a little silly on such windows since there will only be a few vertical blind panels hanging down. Some blind companies don't make vertical blinds for narrow windows, so you won't have a lot of options to choose from, either.

Pro: Vertical blinds don't get dirty very easily.

Horizontal blinds have a tendency to grab and hang onto dust. It's so easy, after all, for dust to land on their horizontal, shelf-like surfaces. Vertical blinds, on the other hand, tend to stay cleaner. They don't have that shelf layout for dust to stick on. They will accumulate some dirt over time, but cleaning them is also pretty easy. You can put a sock over your hand and just slide it down each blind. This takes less time and effort than cleaning thin horizontal blinds.

Con: Vertical blinds can blow in the breeze.

Since vertical blinds typically hang down and are not fixed on the bottom, they will start to move and jostle when the wind blows in the window. With a gentle breeze, this may not be a huge deal. However, stronger winds can cause the vertical blinds to dance around too much and make more noise. Some people find this irritating.

Before choosing vertical window blinds, consider the pros and cons above. You may decide that vertical blinds are right for you and your home, or you might decide you'd rather go with horizontal blinds. Luckily, there are blind options out there for everyone.
